Heating and Cooling Flyer

Energy prices are going up! Carbon dioxide emissions are a growing concern due to climate change. How will

Salter Square residents heat and cool their homes as natural gas supplies dwindle and electricity prices sky rocket? To continue to use electricity or natural gas are not sustainable options.

CCC#77’s new Utilities Committee is exploring how our common areas or adjacent city-owned land can be used to store summer heat that can be used to heat homes in the winter. One method of doing that is to extract heat from the summer air and inject it into the ground. In the winter, this stored heat can be efficiently recovered using ground source heat pumps. Summer cooling can also be provided using the same system. Salter Square is exploring a pilot project with a small number of units to implement this type of system for home heating and cooling.

Details of how the City and its residents can cooperate in such projects, how the condominium corporation can support the project, how these projects might be funded, and how they can be implemented without imposing commitments or inconveniences on the residents are all questions the committee is trying to tackle.

If you are an owner with an interest in taking part in this pilot project or being part of the Utilities Committee, please e-mail Pat at patmcrae@magma.ca
